The Grounds of Alexandria
Old McDonald has a farm but Sydney has The Grounds of Alexandria, a must for any visitor to the city, and especially for those staying in the inner west. The Grounds, as it's known to locals, is an old factory that has been lovingly and very carefully converted into a rustic, industrial and incredibly stylish cafe with an emphasis on fresh, wholesome, and locally grown and sourced produce. On site there is a spacious outdoor seating area (where you can enjoy take away food and coffee) surrounded by a whimsical lush garden packed full of organic vegetables, fruit and herbs, and an onsite florist (The Grounds Florals by Silvia) who creates the most amazingly fresh flowers you will ever see. There is also the potting shed; a hidden oasis where hanging plants, terracotta pots and timber beams meet brass, brick and iron. It's a lively spot where you can enjoy craft beers, wines and unique cocktails. The main cafe has an in house bakery and patisserie, serves the finest coffee, and has a fresh and seasonal menu. The food is rustic and focuses on a 'paddock-to-plate' philosophy. Without a doubt this is one of Sydney's best cafes and a visit here will leave you wanting more. On the first weekend of every month, the garden cafe plays host to a fresh produce market with live music and for the big kids at heart there is a petting zoo. It can get super busy so we recommend getting there nice and early to secure a table- but like all good things, it is well worth the wait.
